Moving Resources & Guides
The most common question we get — and the most honest answer in the industry. Local moves in the Twin Cities metro typically run between $300 and $900 for a 2-bedroom home, depending on crew size, distance, and total hours. CPM's pricing is hourly: $150/hr for 2 movers, $225/hr for 3 movers, $300/hr for 4 movers, plus a flat $175 truck fee and $1.29/mile. A 2-hour minimum applies. With this structure, you pay for exactly what you use — nothing more. We've seen competitors charge fuel surcharges, stair fees, elevator fees, and "long carry" fees. None of those exist on a CPM invoice.
For spring and summer moves (May through September), book at least 2–3 weeks in advance. This is peak moving season in Minnesota, and slots fill faster than most people expect. The most common mistake we see is waiting until a week before move-in date — by then, weekend availability is typically gone. Fall and winter moves have more flexibility, often available within 5–7 days. Regardless of season, booking earlier locks in your date and reduces stress. We hold dates with a deposit and confirm everything in writing.
In Minnesota, moving companies transporting household goods are required to be registered with the MN Department of Transportation. CPM's MN DOT number is #385610. Licensed movers carry liability coverage, operate under enforceable consumer protection rules, and are accountable to state regulators. Unlicensed movers — often advertised cheaply on Craigslist or through social media — have no regulatory accountability. If something is damaged or lost, you have very limited recourse. Always ask for a DOT number before signing anything.
Every CPM move includes loading and unloading, furniture disassembly and reassembly, moving blankets and shrink wrap on all large items, floor runners in both properties, door frame padding, and precise item placement at your destination. Packing materials and packing services are available as an add-on. We bring all equipment — dollies, straps, floor protection — as standard. You don't need to supply anything except the destination address and your time.
For studio to 1-bedroom apartments, 2 movers is typically sufficient. For 2–3 bedroom homes with normal furniture, 3 movers is our most popular option and provides the best balance of speed and cost. For 4+ bedroom homes, large quantities of heavy items, or moves with tight time windows, 4 movers is the right call. Our team can advise on crew size when you get your quote — we'd rather recommend the right size upfront than have you overpay or underserve the job.
